SCHOLARSHIP

REQUIREMENTS


The Otho Davis Scholarship Foundation will award scholarships annually in accordance with the wishes of Otho Davis. He expressed the following desires and qualifications, which constitute the policy of our foundation:


“A scholarship will be awarded to a deserving graduate student in a school program of study whose area of concentration is in sports medicine, physical training, or sports marketing.

The award will be based upon an overall review of merit and financial need by the members of the foundation’s Board of Trustees. The candidate must either attend school in or be a resident of either Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey or Northern Delaware. The awarded scholarship will be directly sent to the school on behalf of the student and must be used within five years of the award acceptance.”.

We will be awarding two Graduate students a scholarship in the amount of $20,000 each.


The application should be submitted no later than October 15, 2024.

On behalf of the trustees of the Otho Davis Scholarship Foundation, we are inviting you to submit qualified candidates for this year’s scholarships. We will award two graduate students a scholarship in the amount of $20,000 each.


The minimum qualifications that MUST be met in order to be considered for a scholarship are as follows:


Participation in a graduate program in the area of a) sports medicine, b) physical training, or c) sports marketing.

 

The applicant must be a resident of or attend a college in the Delaware Valley area (Greater Philadelphia area including Southern New Jersey and Northern Delaware).

 

The applicant must also exhibit significant financial need and should note their current total educational debt in their application as further described below. This information must be addressed, or the application will not be considered. Scholarship finalists may be asked to provide further verification of total educational debt.

The application for consideration for a scholarship MUST include the following:


Introductory Letter. An introductory letter written by the applicant, introducing the applicant and explaining the applicant’s current curriculum and professional goals and expressing why the applicant would be a worthy recipient of a scholarship. The letter should also include a brief background and provide the trustees with an insight into the applicant’s personality, experiences and long-term goals.

 

Resume. A resume reflecting the applicant’s education and work history, membership in any professional organizations and any extracurricular activities and service projects in which the applicant has participated. Service work is important.

 

Letter of Recommendation. A letter of recommendation from the Dean, Program Director or Department Chair of the school in which the applicant is enrolled (please include the applicant’s GPA).

 

Educational Debt. A summary of the total amount of educational debt incurred by the applicant prior to the date of the application and, if applicable, a good faith estimate of the amount of future educational debt the applicant expects to incur after the date of the application. Ideally, the applicant will provide this information in the format set forth below. In addition, the application should include appropriate documentation (e.g., loan statements, disbursement statements, etc.) from the lender or loan servicer or other appropriate third party (e.g., school financial aid office) evidencing the amount of educational debt incurred by the applicant prior to the date of the application and a written statement from the applicant certifying that the estimated amount of future educational debt expected to be incurred after the date of the application reflects a bona fide, good faith estimate on the part of the applicant.

Disclosure of Certain Relationships. The applicant shall provide a written statement certifying that the applicant is not a relative of any Trustee, officer or employee of the Foundation, or any other person known to the applicant to be associated with the Foundation. The Foundation reserves the right to deny the application of any applicant who has such a relationship.

 

This information must be submitted by no later than October 15, 2024, either by mail or uploaded via the website. Failure to include any of the above information in the application may result in the disqualification of such applicant from consideration for a scholarship. All the material requested will be used as part of the selection process.

 

The final decision for the scholarship recipients will be made by November 4, 2024. The school(s) and winning applicants will then be notified, and further details will be provided.

 

The scholarship recipients will be acknowledged at our 25th Anniversary Awards Banquet to be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 5:30 PM at the Philadelphia Marriot Old City, One Dock Street in Philadelphia, PA. 

 

The scholarship check will be issued directly to the school on behalf of the student.
